29er Images
This is a bunch of images of 29ers that I found on the internet, I am using them as trial images for a new bit of code I’ve added to my template.

Messing with the Design..
Yeah, I’m messing with the design on GP again. Editing the current theme. In the time while I’m doing that, cache will be turned off, so things might be slow and look a little wierd.
Just FYI.

An Awesome Wallpaper
While this isn’t really a proper post, I really wanted to share this wallpaper, which I found through Adii’s blog and now graces my desktop on both my laptops
You can find it over here, where it’s creator made it
Photoshop Express.. That Looks Cool :)
I read about Photoshop Express today, and, instinctively, I joined it.
After all the email confirmation stuff, I was met with a nice friendly desktop, with four big fat options, I even took a screenshot
It’s all friendly and simple, although I don’t get the obsession with black by everyone, Windows, Adobe, whatever (that was totally unwarranted, but I wanted to say it).
Now, to uploading. The whole thing is an applet of some sort, and it’s very fast. The uploader is nice and friendly, and it pretty much explains everything
And the image editor, while it’s a lot simpler than the real photoshop, but it’s enough for the people who just need basic stuff, I took (the last) screeny of the editor.
So yeah, it’s all cool. I love the live previewing thing, and the whole thing is really pretty cool. It’s still a beta, but they’ve got a lot of stuff pretty well sorted out.
Congrats to Adobe for making a great service that I’m sure thousands of people will use for the basics

I don’t know why I wrote this post, but it seemed a good idea when I started writing it
I guess it’s nearly a review
Wordpress 2.5 Goes Gold
I’ve just been to the Wordpress site, to look at a trac ticket, and I found the new design when I went to sign up. Wordpress have released v2.5 final, and I understand that Matt Mullenweg just announced it at the Dallas Wordcamp.
I’m upgrading GP right now
Everyone, go and download it!
Apple : Let’s Make It Illegal To Install Windows Safari, Yeah?
I recently wrote about the new Safari, and I liked it. As usual, I installed it without reading the license agreement, and although it was a mistake, technically, I was breaking the law. <- Apple made a mistake.
2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time.
From ArsTechnica
Ah, that means my old Dell won’t be allowed then?
Although Apple have changed this now, it’s still a funny mistake
The updated version went out last night, I think.

A Vista Diary..
Yes, it sounds sad. But myself and a few friends are going to create a diary of our triumphs, woes and tips since we installed Vista (for all of us, that was some point this month), so maybe it’ll help others, but moreover it’s to give us something to do
It’s going to have a nice basic theme, and little or no advertising, depending on what we discuss together. It’s not really a big thing, just a little extra to play with, as well as a spot to mess with the new Wordpress, because the others won’t install it
As it’s nothing major (and I can’t afford it) , I’m going to put it on a subdomain of Zelu, which might finally give it a bit of a purpose, I guess.
Eventually, i’ll actually launch it, and post a link, and then I’ll get to stop going on about Vista here ![]()
I’m Writing This From Vista…
Yep, the new laptop arrived
For the “4 working days” option, that was pretty quick. It appears that Laptops Direct are pretty good.
I’m writing this while I wait for it to uninstall the trail of office 07 that came with it (peh, 03 for me
) ; and with follow up to my post about Vista not being so bad, I think I was right, it really is good. The only niggle so far is the constant “We need your permission to do this” popups, but apart from that, it’s fast, well behaved, and it’s not struggling with the heavy pages anything like my old one
The packaging suffered an identity crisis, though: the laptop cleary says R61i on the front, while all the packaging and instructions say R61e. Looking at the spec, it appears to be neither, the processor is more powerful than the one in the specification that I ordered, and the one that it thinks it is. Never mind, it’s all good
I love the aero interface, it’s all nice and friendly, and it’s fast too, which is always a bonus. The keyboard is nice and responsive, and the touches that come in the Lenovo ThinkVantage suite are excellent. Lenovo included their own suite of components that work perfectly with Vista, like their own security manager, wireless handler (which is good :D) and so on. It’s really, genuinely excellent.
[ this could quickly turn into a review, but never mind ]
The browsing seems to be handling the heavier sites better, too (I might have said that already) , but it’s loading miles faster than my old Inspiron did, although, fair play, it is 5 years old.
So, for a £360 laptop (including delivery
); this is really pretty good
I think that a bit more RAM might be a good idea, though, it’s sat here idling processor wise, but still using 830mb RAM. Vista, I suppose..
You can find the laptop sales page at Laptops Direct here, and my post about replacing the old laptop, including some pictures, here.
Review: Fast-Teks Computer Repair
Before I start, this is a paid review, but any opinions I express in it are entirely my own, not influenced at all by the “paid” bit ![]()
I’m going to keep paid review to a max of 3 a month, otherwise this will just turn into a rubbishy spam blog :P
What Is Fast-Teks?
Probably a good place to start, but Fast-Teks are a leading on-site computer repair and support company, providing “professional support at affordable rates” for those with computer issues. Their website claims they can service and repair “any major brand”.
Why Is This A Good Idea?
This means that they can come to you, and sort out whatever needs sorting out, without you having to leave your residence, or business workplace (they cater for both), so you need never worry about computer issues again.

Updated to Wordpress 2.5 RC2 :)
A little over a week since the release of Wordpress 2.5 RC1, RC2 is out, and I’ve just finished upgrading to it.
There’s not much of a difference, from what I can see, everything looks the same as RC1, but I’m sure they’ve fixed loads of stuff
In (what I think is) a first from Wordpress, they’ve announced the new features and things in a screencast, which is pretty cool
I think the new look is awesome, and that Wordpress are doing an awesome job with this ![]()
Is Vista Really As Bad As Everyone (Me Included) Says?
Well, I had a proper play with Vista over this weekend, instead of the last time, when I used it for about 5 minutes, and hated it (it crashed on me); and I’ll be honest, it’s nothing like as bad as I previously thought and said it was.
There are hundreds of thousands of people out there (a number which, up until recently, included me) who just go with the flow, say it’s crap, and it’s done a lot of damage to a system which really isnt that bad.
It’s not perfect, but the new features and functions, and more importantly, the new look, give it a great new feel, and for me (I was running it on a fast machine, though) it was pretty quick, and faster than I’ve seen XP on that machine (I think). It wasn’t one of my computers, actually my cousins, although I’ve just ordered my new one, which will have Vista on it :).
So, while I still think Ubuntu is probably better, Vista is getting there, and maybe with a bit more work (SP2, guys
) It could really become a system people love, rather than hate.
For those who just went with the flow, try it. It’s not fair to slag it off without having a proper play with it first.
And, with regards to the post I linked to, I quite like the Aero interface. So there. ![]()
I Voted :)
I had to.
If you haven’t already, head over here and vote for the best publishing platform on the ‘web. I voted Wordpress
Safari 3.1 - It’s Out Of Beta
I’m not sure how recently it was released, but ArsTechnica (those who matter) have just reviewed this, so I thought I’d try it out.
I ran the original beta a while ago, and although I liked it, it was laggy on my machine, even more so than Ie in some cases, and it crashed a little intermittantly.
I also found a few small problems with the rendering, but they were just niggles, and nothing like as bad as the IE8 rendering system.
The look hasn’t changed at all, and that’s a good thing, I feel, but it has sped up, and I can’t find the rendering issues I had before, so I think it’s all good
I’m writing this post on Safari, and it’s working fine. so it’s all good
- I’ve included a screenshot, mainly because I’m playing with the wordpress Gallery feature, but also because it looks pretty good. The change in the submit button from the other two, bigger browsers is brilliant, I think it looks 10x better
Although I’ve only used it briefly, I think this could possibly be a competitor to the greats, like IE and FF ![]()
Bye-Bye Old Laptop… :P
I took the plunge last night, and ordered myself a nice new laptop ![]()
My old one really needed replacing anyway, and the new one I found should be tough enough to withstand living with me ![]()
I’ve even got some pics, It’s a Lenovo Thinkpad R61; and the pictures are copied from laptops direct
I especially like the fact that there is no trackpad, just a joystick type of thing
It should arrive by Friday, fingers crossed ![]()
And now it’s 200 spam comments.. :)
A little under 2 weeks ago, Akismet made it to 100 spam comments blocked on my blog, now it’s 200.
Yes, that was a crappy short post, but it’s still only a follow up.
Also, I can’t be bothered to think of anything else to write ![]()
Happy Easter, Everyone!
Yep, Happy Easter. Have a great day, and don’t forget to give all your friends, including me, easter eggs ![]()
[wrote this in advance, because I'll be away right about now :P]
But yeah, have a nice time everyone ![]()
I Have Piqqus.com Invites..
Yeah, I got an account, and I’m good to start inviting people
Basically, I’ll post an invite every now and again, and otherwise, if you want one, post a comment on this, asking for it, and I’ll email you one

Selling Some of the Proxies
I think it’s time I parted with some of my proxies, I can’t be bothered to promote them any more, and the traffic they do have isn’t really being optimized. I’ve been too busy working on my other sites, mainly my blogs, to do much with them, and while the traffic is repeat, maintaining them isn’t something I want to be doing.
I’m open to any (reasonable) offers, either indevidually or as a group, I might post some details later on, but to be honest, I’d just like a quick, clean sale, without any crap
If you have a sensible offer, email me (g[at]gpearce.co.uk , spam me and i’ll slap you
)
I guess that’s it ![]()
It’s A Few Months In, And Pay Per Play Still Isn’t Operational..
It’s been a story of delays. First, they said it’d be ready within a week, then a month, and now, over 2 months on, here we are, still not fully operational.
As I’ve already said, I dislike Pay Per Play massively, and this is a great chance for me to insult it yet again, because they’ve spectacularly failed to keep to their own set deadlines, and emails keep being sent out, saying “this week” , “this week”
Even my friend, who swore by it, is getting bored of waiting now, that’s how bad he thinks it’s got
Buck your act up PPP, or, even better, die out totally.
eBay Jumps Ship.. What Does That Mean For Us?
I got the email from eBay today, they are jumping ship from CJ and the other one (I forget the name) , and running their own affiliate system now. It was a matter of time
They start this new system in April, wiht no account moving, I understand that brand new accounts have to be made, which could be fun
For affiliates, I heard that they are keeping the PID system, so BANS and similar will still work, it’ll just be tracked elsewhere, which could be good, only time will tell
I wonder how long it’ll be before eBay.co.uk follow .com ![]()
